Before you get further into this entry, this post is only for those who is using Windows 7 Ultimate. But it might also work for other types of Windows too. Attention, Planet Milano will not hold any responsibility for any damages or loss happen due to the usage of any information in this blog.
Look at the picture above. This is what I'm going to talk about! You can make your lappy more interesting, exciting and amusing by designing your own theme that suits your taste. There might be other way that easier and simple than this, but this is all that I can share. The main advantages of this method is that you don't have to download and install any software that take a lot of your time, have to pay or may harm your computer or laptop.
Re-arrange Your Laptop Contents
Arrange your files
Make a proper arrangement of files, images, videos and music by creating appropriate folder for them. Gather all similar types of files in a folder could be a great help for you to easily find them when you need these files. If you don't have enough time to manage your desktop, you can always create a folder where you can put all your recent files.
Delete unnecessary files
Remove unnecessary files from your laptop and always make sure your Recycle Bin clean and empty. This is to ensure your laptop run smoothly.
Only main folders in desktop
Only main folders in desktop
Having only main folders on your desktop will make your desktop look tidy and cute. If you notice, tidy desktop (or have less files or folders in desktop) run smoother compare to the one with lots of files. Main folders includes Computer, Recycle Bin, Download folder, Library folder (Images, Videos, Files, Music) and any folder that you frequently open.
Design Your Own Theme for Your Laptop
Set your desktop wallpaper
Before setting a desktop wallpaper, please bear in your mind that the wallpaper should be able to matched with folder's icon you are about to make. Choose wallpaper that will make your folders in desktop can easily be seen, may have a good color combination with the folder's icon, and does not look messy. Colorful wallpaper will make your folder hard to be seen and bright wallpaper (white) might harm your eyes health. But still, the choice is in your hand. Your taste, your design, your theme. wink ;)
Choose the images you're going to convert to icon (.ico file)
You can get a lots of images online or maybe you want to use own picture. The images you're going to use must be a PNG files with size not more than 500kb.
If your images is not in PNG type or larger than the required size, follow the simple step below.
1. Open the images you're going to use using Paint. (Right-click the image, go to OPEN WITH, and choose PAINT.
2. In PAINT, resize your image to 500kb each for wide and height. After that, go to menu button and move your cursor to SAVE AS. Next to SAVE AS you will able to see various type of files. Click on PNG and save your image.
3. Now your images is ready to be converted.
Converting images to icon (.ico)
Again, the image you're going to convert must be a PNG file and with size 500kb or smaller. Now, open your browser and go to http://www.convertico.com/ . At the website, BROWSE (1) for the image you're going to use. Then, click GO (2) and the website will start to convert your image and usually takes between 30 seconds to 3 minutes. When the website successfully convert your image, you can download the icon (.ico file) by clicking the highlighted area (Number 3) as in the picture below.

Setting your folder's icon
Before setting your folder's icon, please be noted that whenever you change the location of the '.ico' file you used to your folder, the folder's icon change back to the previous icon. To avoid this, put the '.ico' file in the folder you used on. Now, follow the guide in the slideshow I provided below (View in fullscreen so the images can be seen clearly). If the folder's icon does not change to the design you have set, try to refresh your computer or laptop by RIGHT-CLICK your desktop and choose REFRESH. For changing the RECYCLE BIN's icon, please look at the next guide below.
When you right-click your RECYCLE BIN folder, you notice that there is no PROPERTIES option. But don't worry, we can still change its icon. Please follow the guide in the slideshow I provided below.
Customize Your Mouse Cursor
You can also change the appearance of your mouse cursor. Download the cursor design online and set it up in your laptop or computer. www.cursors-4u.com/ is the website where I always download cursor design when I need one.
